Q. Why does a wife with borderline personality disorder have no sexual responsiveness to her partner, even
after apparent recovery? Is it possible to somehow recover sexual
responsiveness to her partner?
A. I am not aware of any research that indicates
that sexual responsiveness changes as a result of recovery or treatment from
BPD. This is likely a separate issue that needs to be explored further. A
discussion with her personal physician would likely be the best place to
start first so that the doctor can rule out any physiological factors that
may be effecting her. If physiological factors are not found to be
contributing to this, then you may want to consider consulting with a mental
health professional with experience and expertise in sexual functioning and
sexual dysfunctions.
