Specialty program at The Menninger Clinic
Professionals in Crisis
Treaters offer an addiction program and nonaddiction program to focus on the clinical needs of professionals in medicine, business, law, government, education, athletics, and entertainment.
Patients receive support from peer professionals, as well as from a staff, who are attuned to the demands of challenging careers and private lives.
The nonaddiction program addresses depressive disorders, anxiety and panic disorders, anger or disruptive behavior, professional boundary violations, impaired ability to skillfully and safely perform tasks, career issues, transitions, and burnout.
The addiction program features weekend programming, family work and involvement, 12-step meetings, and education about addictions and the family disease concept of addictions.

Hope Adult Program
Hope provides individualized treatment for adults experiencing symptoms that are substantially compromising their quality of life or whose illness has
become unmanageable or unresponsive to outpatient treatment.
Treaters address long-standing mood, anxiety, or psychotic disorders that coexist with personality disorders or other conditions. They promote stabilization, evaluate diagnoses, rekindle hope through psychotherapeutic methods and rehabilitation, and respond to each patient's goals with an ambitious, realistic treatment plan. Treaters also educate patients and their families about patient's illnesses, treatments, and relapse prevention strategies.

Compas Young Adult Program
Compas serves young adults ages 18 to 30, needing treatment for a psychiatric disorder that may also be accompanied by substance abuse or addiction.
The program provides a supportive and structured environment to address the specific needs of young adults who are having difficulty transitioning from adolescence to adulthood.
A customized treatment plan allows each patient to capitalize on their strengths while they work on targeted symptoms among peers and with experienced clinical staff.
Compas integrates the 12-step addictions model with traditional psychiatric interventions when needed; teaching life management skills, coping strategies,
and social rehabilitation. Patients learn how they can function more effectively within their community, as a part of their family, and for themselves.

Adolescent Treatment Program
This is designed for youth ages 12-18 with moderate to severe behavior, psychiatric, chemical dependency, and coexisting disorders, as well as gender, interpersonal, or school issues.
The treatment team provides effective interventions for youth who have not progressed in other treatment settings or whose symptoms require more management than outpatient services provide.
Integrating a wide range of treatment methods, the team helps each patient apply their strengths to work on targeted areas of their life among peers and in a caring environment. The program features group therapy, skill building, individual therapy, family therapy, medication therapy, symptom management, a focus on cultural and spiritual values, and chemical dependency treatment when needed.
Adolescents advance their education during their stay through instruction led by certified teachers in the on-site school program.

Eating Disorders Program
This program offers intensive treatment for persons 12 and older suffering from the effects of anorexia, bulimia, obesity, compulsive overeating, excessive exercising, and underlying psychiatric disorders.
The Eating Disorders Program is appropriate for persons who are medically stable. The length of stay varies according to the clinical needs of patients.
The multidisciplinary treatment team includes a registered dietician, activity therapist, and internist. The goal for the staff is to form a treatment alliance that empowers each patient to take full responsibility for their recovery, while promoting physical and emotional health.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Center
The Center serves adolescents and adults with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and coexisting conditions.
Treatment integrates behavioral, milieu, and medication therapies. Patients and the multidisciplinary staff collaborate on setting and attaining measurable treatment goals. Individual treatment plans include at least two hours of daily exposure and ritual prevention, as well as self-directed exposure at least three times a week.
Patients also benefit from the support of the behavior management staff, skill building, and education about OCD and symptom management.
Adolescents continue their academic studies in the on-site school program.

Comprehensive Outpatient Evaluations
The evaluation provides a thorough diagnosis and specific treatment and aftercare solutions for persons with complex or recurring symptoms. The patients typically:
- seek concrete direction for treatment
- experience relapses
- desire a second opinion
A multidisciplinary team is assembled to work directly with the patient and their family at the Menninger campus for four and a half days to understand and
assess the overall mental health history and current situation. The team presents verbal and written findings and recommendations for treatment to the patient and their family. Treatment may be implemented at Menninger or elsewhere.

Professional Assessments
Outpatient and hospital assessments are diagnostic tools for licensed professionals in medicine, mental health, law, and other fields. An assessment aids professionals who may be experiencing chemical dependency, disruptive behavior, psychiatric disorders, sexual boundary violations, career stress/burnout, or dual disorders.
The assessment team delivers a timely report of its findings and recommendations on:
- what must be accomplished in order for the patient to return to work
- specific requests made by the patient's licensing board, employer, family, or referring clinician or organization
An outpatient assessment is conducted at the Menninger campus. In the event 24-hour supervision is needed, the patient stays on the Professionals
in Crisis unit. Both settings offer flexibility to customize the goals of the assessment and the opportunity to implement recommended treatment at Menninger or elsewhere.

Menninger is licensed by the State of Texas and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
