for Traumatic Stress Studies
Uk
Can
by Edna B. Foa (Editor), Terence M. Keane
(Editor), Matthew J. Friedman (Editor) "This comprehensive volume brings
together leading authorities on psychological trauma to offer best practice
guidelines for the treatment of PTSD. Developed under the auspices of
the PTSD Treatment Guidelines Task Force of the International Society
for Traumatic Stress Studies, the book represents the collaborative work
of experts across a range of theoretical orientations and professional
backgrounds. After addressing general treatment considerations and methodological
issues, chapters review and evaluate the salient literature on treatment
approaches for children, adolescents, and adults. Approaches covered include
acute interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, pharmacotherapy, EMDR,
group therapy, psychodynamic therapy, inpatient treatment, psychosocial
rehabilitation, hypnosis, marital and family treatment, and creative therapies.
Standardized ratings are provided of each modality's efficacy for reducing
core symptoms, and therapeutic goals, methods, and treatment planning
recommendations are summarized."

Trauma
and Addiction: Ending the Cycle of Pain Through Emotional Literacy
Uk
Can
by Tian, Ph.D. Dayton "This latest book identifies the interconnection
of trauma and addictive behavior, and shows why they can become an unending
cycle. Emotional and psychological pain so often lead to self-medicating,
which leads to more pain, and inevitably more self-medicating, and so
on--ad infinitum. This groundbreaking book offers readers effective ways
to work through their traumas in order to heal their addictions and their
predilection toward what clinicians call self-medicating (the abuse of
substances [alcohol, drugs, food], activities [work, sex, gambling, etc.]
and/or possessions [money, material things].) Readers caught up in the
endless cycle of trauma and addiction will permanently transform their
lives by reading this book."

Treating
the Trauma of Rape: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Ptsd (Treatment
Manuals for Practitioners)
Uk
Can
by Barbara Olasov, Ph.D. Rothbaum, Edna
B., Ph.D. Foa, "About time!, Treating the Trauma of Rape may be heavy
fare for survivors and their families...however, it is a complete treatment
manual for therapists. The step by step explanations of treatment tactics...even
the controversial ones...makes this a valuable tool in any therapist's
practice. There are straight-forward styles of treatment, problems and
cases that make the reading simple but not easy on the spirit. Not a self-help
book by any means...share it with your doctor or with your client."

Understanding
Post Traumatic Stress : A Psychosocial Perspective on Ptsd and Treatment
Uk
Can
by Ruth Williams, William Yule, Stephen Joseph "This text on post-traumatic
stress disorder argues that PTSD reactions are not caused by the traumatic
event alone, but that psychosocial factors play a vital part as well.
Investigates how individuals interrogate and reconstruct their memories
and past experiences, and why some cope well with trauma while others
struggle. Discusses normal and abnormal reactions to trauma, assessment
and measurement of trauma, types of trauma, an integrative model of adjustment,
and intervention and treatment."

Acute
Stress Disorder : A Handbook of Theory, Assessment, and Treatment
Uk
Can
by Richard A. Bryant, Allison G. Harvey "An essential read for trauma
specialists., Bryant and Harvey who are well known in the field of Acute
Stress Disorder and Post traumatic Stress Disorder are authors of this
excellent book. The content is suitable for those who work with traumatized
individuals and provides a balanced account of research to date in this
area while highlighting areas as yet to be researched. This book gives
a useful account of methods used in the treatment of ASD and PTSD and
tends to focus on cognitive behavioral methods mostly ( in particular-
Prolonged Exposure), unfortunately it does not really address biological
theories and treatments available. Examples of clients traumas are given
and methods of addressing these in a safe manner in every day practice
situations .The background theories of Acute Stress Disorder are dealt
with in three chapters ,two chapters deal with assessment and the remaining
deal with management. Included in the appendix are the Acute Stress Disorder
Interview and Acute Stress Disorder Scale which may be helpful to anyone
involved in research. In addition to the tools listed in the appendix
other assessment tools are also discussed . Overall however an excellent
book which I am pleased to say was an easy read and most informative.
