Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder: The Victim's Guide to Healing and Recovery
Uk
Can
by Raymond
B., Jr. Flannery "These acts result in psychological trauma with its states
of terror and fear, and symptoms that may include hypervigilence, exaggerated
startle response, sleeplessness, and recurring intrusive memories of the
event. Such events and their aftermath often lead to avoidance of the
traumatic situation and withdrawal from other life activities as well.
In time, psychological trauma becomes Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),
and the effects of PTSD, if left untreated, may last until death.
It need not be this way. There are good interventions that victims can
utilize for themselves and with their therapists. For many years, my victim
patients asked where they could learn more about PTSD. Since there was
no book on the topic, I wrote this one so that the basic information about
psychological trauma and PTSD would be available. Many victims and their
therapists have found this book to be of remarkable help."

Scared to Cry: Psychic Trauma in Childhood
Uk
Can
by Lenore Terr "Unforgettable
insight into the effects of early trauma, After many years of fostering
displaced and traumatized children, this book gave me landmark understanding
of their emotional state and behaviors. I will never forget the recurring
themes of the young children at play and have since found observing play
as a valuable tool in unraveling the mysteries of trauma in toddlers.
I am especially intrigued by the effects of pre-verbal trauma since many
of the babies that have come through my home, or stayed by adoption, have
told their "trauma stories" through their behaviors. They have no words
yet to describe their experiences. The effects of sexual trauma at a very
early age are well described in this book. It is something most of us
would rather not think about, much less deal with on a daily basis in
a three year old. This book has helped me do that. Another book that was
very helpful along these lines was Unspeakable Acts, an account of a daycare
sexual abuse case in Florida. While very graphic and detailed, more journalistic
in style, it helped me recognize the many symptoms and effects of sexual
abuse on very young children and also gave me insight into the bizarre
psyches of the perpetrators."

a chance to recover the self lost in childhood. Drawing on his extensive
work with Adult Children, and on his own experience as a survivor of emotional
neglect, therapist Steven Farmer demonstrates that through exercises and
journal work, his program can help lead you through grieving your lost
childhood, to become your own parent, and integrate the healing aspects
of spiritual, physical, and emotional recovery into your adult life."
