My name is Shannon and I am a 30 year old female.
I am interested in becoming an e-mail volunteer. I suffer from several mental disorders. I have Borderline Personality Disorder, Bipolar II, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I also have a mild eating disorder and suffer from chronic anxiety and panic attacks. I have a history of anger management issues and self-injury. In addition, I have been in recovery for two years from drugs and alcohol.
I would be willing to communicate with fellow sufferers as well as family members, spouses, etc. I am a thirty year old female from Connecticut. I speak fluent English but unfortunately I do not speak any other language.
I was not diagnosed with the above mentioned disorders until I got sober off of drugs and alcohol. However, the symptoms of my various mental problems have affected me and my family and loved ones my whole life. I have had serious problems holding down jobs due to my self-injury, panic attacks, anger, etc. My OCD affects everything I do on a daily basis. I go through manic stages of severe, suicidal depression and times where I am hyper and talkative and almost feel high. I have trouble sleeping on a regular schedule. I suffer from chronic insomnia as well as mild hypochondria. I am not bulimic or anorexic but I do suffer from an eating disorder that my psychiatrist has yet to define. I now see both my psychiatrist and my therapist on a regular basis and am working on uncovering the root of my problems. I attend A.A. meetings regularly and recently celebrated two years of sobriety. I am finally on medication for my problems and it does seem to be helping.
I would love the opportunity to speak with and help other sufferers. I also think I could shed some light on these issues for anyone who knows and cares about a sufferer of mental illness. I know how it has affected my family and past relationships and I am trying to get past all that. I think this would be a great opportunity not only to help others but also myself.
